About me

People seek therapy for a wide range of reasons. Each person comes with a unique combination of life experiences, values, circumstances, and resources and we are all quite complex. What drives many people to seek help, however, is emotional distress or a sense of being “stuck”. While the distress itself is often unwanted, it can be a powerful indicator that something needs to change.

If this is where you find yourself, my goal is to help you make that change.

My two main approaches to therapy are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Both CBT and EMDR have a strong research foundation and have been found to be effective for people experiencing a range of mental health problems. Being a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist, with experience from working in various community and clinical settings, I commonly integrate ideas and interventions from other approaches in my work if I believe that will help make the therapy work more meaningful and effective.

I currently work within the NHS as a Counselling Psychologist and I have over eight years of experience addressing problems ranging from relationship concerns and work-life balance to long-standing depression, severe anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. I am particularly interested in working with survivors of trauma, including childhood abuse, sexual and physical assault, accidents, and disasters.

In order to help you decide whether working with me will meet your needs, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation before booking the first appointment. In the first session, I will then gather information about your past and current experiences to gain a good understanding of what may be contributing to your difficulties. Once we have established your goals for therapy, we will collaborate on identifying specific steps you can take to increase your wellbeing and strengthen your ability to tackle life’s many challenges.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and generally scheduled at a regular, weekly time. Afternoon and evening appointments are available.

I can provide therapy both in English and Icelandic.
