Carla Burns

BACP Registered Counsellor

About me

I am a qualified and registered psychotherapeutic counsellor, working with sensitivity and respect to support you in whatever might be troubling you at the moment. I offer a space in which you can feel safe to bring in all aspects of your self and work towards a fuller experience of living.

I practise integrative counselling, which means that I am trained a range of approaches and will work according to your needs and strengths. For example you may prefer to explore your feelings through visualisation, focus on your childhood dreams, or work with how you experience your body.

I work with a transpersonal framework, which is about looking at what’s beyond personal identity and how we might belong (or not) in the bigger picture of the world. For some this will mean spirituality, for others not.

I see our relationship as central to our work together. I work collaboratively, encouraging openness and respecting your autonomy.

I have worked with people suffering with a range of difficult experiences, including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, stuckness, procrastination, grief, loss, shame, low self-worth, overwhelm, emptiness, isolation and loneliness.

Before training in counselling I studied psychology (MA) and worked in a range of clinical settings, including providing therapy in an NHS service for people with anxiety and depression, and supporting adults and children with learning difference and diversity (especially autism). I decided to train as a counsellor because of my personal experience of long-term therapy, so I have first-hand understanding of the benefits and challenges of the therapy journey.
