Initial appointment

An initial appointment provides an opportunity for you to explore whether working with the person you have chosen will help you find solutions to the challenges you are facing and you can get a feel for how it would be to work with that particular therapist or counsellor. During this meeting, the practitioner will ask you questions to clarify your situation and will talk with you about whether psychotherapy/counselling might be an appropriate way forward. You will also have an opportunity to ask any questions you have. At the end of this initial consultation, you will be able to decide whether you would like to continue with further appointments. There is no obligation following this assessment. If both sides agree to work together, suitable dates and times will be arranged for the future.
