Malvinder Matharu

UKCP Registered Psychotherapist

About me

I am a qualified psychotherapist with over 8 years of experience in Integrative Psychotherapy. I offer a confidential service in a caring and professional environment. I can offer short term solution focussed therapy and long term in depth psychotherapy.
I trained at the Metanoia Institute and have a Masters Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy and I hold their Diploma of Clinical Practice.

I work with individuals in English and Punjabi. I currently work with a charity domestic violence organisation where I see clients on a one to one basis, as well as carrying out assessments and facilitating workshops.

My other work experiences have been in my local community, working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds to empower through information and activities.
I have also been involved in borough wide research carried out by Sheffield University and NELFT (North East London Foundation Trust NHS).

My training has included working with the NHS, MIND and a charity domestic violence organisation. I work with people across different cultural and sexual backgrounds.

Our initial meeting will be to meet each other and see if we ‘click’ on a personal level. This is vital for the therapeutic relationship to succeed. Together we can explore if you can gain some benefit from working with me; and equally I can share my sense of whether I am the best person to support you at this time, and if not suggest alternative options.

As a psychotherapist, my approach is to work with what you wish to bring. The things in your life from the past and present that are troubling you and you need to clarify, discuss and / or resolve. We will also explore where you would like to be as we talk about the things that concern you: the future you.

Through my integrative approach, in which I incorporate psychodynamic, humanistic and relational orientations, I will work with you as a unique individual, combining my resources to create a way of working that will be specific for you.
I am passionate about supporting you to begin or continue your journey of self discovery, in which you can explore your inner thoughts and feelings - things that may be fleeting in nature but leave you unsettled, or more intrusive, and dominate your thoughts and behaviours to the point of being destructive.

I work with a wide range of issues including grief, trauma, domestic violence, depression, suicidal thoughts, cultural identity crisis and many others. I am also experienced in strategies to help people cope with stress (or anxiety or trauma) such as visualisation and breathing techniques that I use in my workshops when working with people who are survivors of domestic violence.

As your psychotherapist, I firmly believe that we will be working together in collaboration, in which you are the expert of your life, and my role will be to provide you with the necessary interventions that will support you to continue your exploratory journey as well as to be by your side as you make difficult discoveries, choices and decisions during therapy.
